on a new property of interest

The estate agent emailed me details of this property that’s new on the market today. Isn’t it lovely? I particularly like the boarded-up windows; very crack house chic.

on not doing very much

So, yeah. Hello. I’ve seriously been neglecting this blog lately (and by the way, this new theme is only temporary; something was messing with the layout of the old one so I’m using this until I can find something more “me”). Not much going on really – I almost bought myself a flat but the estate agent stitched me up and sold it to someone else. Still, these things happen for a reason. There’s another one I’ve got my eye on but it doesn’t have a garden and I do like a bit of fresh air from time to time; though it does have space for window boxes so I could compromise.

Almost six months on and dad still isn’t speaking to me and even went so far as to totally ignore me when we passed in the street the other day – well, he managed quite an aggressive glare, so didn’t ignore me totally. Bruv’s already moved away and sis is following him next month, and I don’t want to be stuck looking after the miserable git in his old age so I’m making myself scarce. I think if mum had her way she’d sell the house and move away from him too.

I’m thinking of doing away with my fanlistings. Keep ending up on the ‘troubles’ list because I don’t update them often enough and, to be honest, it’s a hassle that I could do without. If anyone wants to take them over then please let me know; otherwise I’ll probably close them as soon as the domains come up for renewal. I’m trying to cut back on my online time and do something more productive with my precious days off – though at the moment I’m working on a new site for robinsachs.com (it’s coming along sloooooowly, but I feel bad because I should’ve finished it months ago) and there’s still my photoblog site to be updated and because of that I’ll probably ditch my Flickr account and maybe my listing over at 43Things (the fact I’ve barely achieved anything I set out to do shows how pointless it is to keep it.) I’ll still have this blog and Twitter, but thank god I never signed up for Facebook.

Oh, remember I posted previously about my work BFF being suspended? They sacked him. Gutted :(

on moving house and other annoyances

Whilst I’m here posting recipes I may as well bring you up to speed with what’s been happening lately. Won’t take long, I promise.

As some of you who follow my Twitter feed may have read, I’ve managed to get myself a mortgage. I’m officially a grown up now. I’d always thought that shared ownership would be my only option because I wasn’t previously able to get a mortgage on my feeble NHS salary, but I guess now that the market is slowly picking up there’s better deals available. Besides, shared ownership schemes don’t seem to be that money saving when you consider you’re paying both rent and a mortgage; add in something like £100 a month for service charges and it all starts to mount up. Also, our local housing association is fucking useless when it comes to dealing with even the simplest enquiries so I wouldn’t entirely trust them with my hard earned cash. Anyhow, I spoke to a few mortgage advisers and I’ve managed to find myself a fairly good deal – so long as I can find a place for less than £110 grand, which is easier said than done. There is the option is to move slightly further afield where the prices are much cheaper (because the area is skankier) but then that adds more time and money onto my commute and ideally I wanted to stay close to D and also to mum just in case she gets poorly or needs to make a quick escape from dad (he’s still behaving like a total prick) – with both my brother and my sister also planning to move away shortly I think mum’s feeling a bit down, so could do with having at least one of us still living nearby. I have viewed a couple of places locally though; one was lovely but massively overpriced for the work that needed doing and the other was well within my price range but the building was quite run down, there was something iffy about the lease and I don’t think the communal areas had been cleaned or decorated since the 1960s. But I’ll keep on looking, something’s bound to turn up.
