Much better than thought it would be. Given that it’s a Guy Ritchie film I expected Holmes to be a cockney gangsta, but he’s managed to stay relatively close to the character (though he’s quite different to the Jeremy Brett version I grew up watching on telly.) It’s a bit comic book style in places and complete bloody nonsense in others, but it’s good fun overall. Though if they make a sequel then that awful Irish jiggy music needs to go.

Why has this post made my layout go all wonky? *perplexed*
I agree! I went in wanting to dislike this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by Jude Law’s performance in particular. For the most part, it didn’t feel like a Guy Ritchie film at all and was just the right length. It was the perfect thing to watch after the heaviness of Avatar.
Totally agree with you about Jude Law – normally I find him over-rated, but his version of Watson was surprisingly good.
